Best DIY Décor Ideas for Mother’s Day

Everyone wants to make their mothers feel extra special during this time of the year. Since most of us prefer planning a brunch or a high-class breakfast, how about making the décor also unique?

You don’t have to buy anything; I’ve got just the right projects for you!

Happy Mother’s Day Banner

Happy Mother’s Day BannerMaterials you’ll need:

  • A pair of scissors
  • Hot glue
  • Fresh flowers
  • Giant sheets of cardboard or maybe some other sturdy base such as poster board or matboard
  • White paint pen
  • A pencil
  • Banner Template (Make is less than 50 inches wide)
  • Wording Template (or you could also design your own one if you are much more gifted in the handwriting department)

Instructions on how to make the Happy Mother’s Day banner:

Step 1: Cut out the banner template and using the letters as a guide, arrange it properly. Then, place it on top of your cardboard and start tracing. If you want to, you can make the format wider; all you need to do is to use the template as your initial guideline.

Step 2: Since we need smooth edges, cut out the cardboard carefully (or you could go roughly if you plan on covering the edges).

Step 3: Whether you are using the wording template or some other customized printed words, flip the paper over and shade the backside of all the letters with a pencil. You can then flip it back and line it up on your banner.

Step 4: Now, start tracing over all the edges of the words. The shade you made on the back with the help of your pencil will make it possible to transfer an outline to the cardboard.

Step 5: It’s time to start filling in all of the letters with your paint pen. Once this task is done, let it dry completely.

Step 6: All the above tasks could be carried out way before Mother’s Day (or any celebratory event), but keep the flowers for the morning. To stick the flowers to the banner, snip the stems just below the bloom and with some hot glue, stick them to the banner. And, try to avoid touching and breaking the petals as much as you can (I know it’s impossible but….)

Step 7: Keep adding flowers until you are satisfied with the banner.

Mother’s Day Tablescape With Beautiful Floral Backdrop

Mother’s Day Tablescape With Beautiful Floral BackdropMaterials you’ll need:

  • Floral Shears
  • Velcro strips to attach to the wall
  • White Lattice
  • 120-130 carnations
  • Ribbon

Instructions on how to make the Mother’s Day Tablescape with a beautiful floral backdrop:

Step 1: Through the lattice, thread the carnation stems. You can then use around 3 stems per hole and spell out the word “MOM” or “MUM” (up to you).

A more defined and thorough explanation: Start by handing the lattice to the wall; stick it to the wall using the Velcro strips. Once it’s hung, thread the carnations through each hole. After spelling the words, “MOM” or “MUM”, you can start trimming the stems by using the floral shears. Honestly, this took me about 25-30 minutes. (Oh and please don’t try the “other way” cause that took me 1.5 hours. I’m serious here!)

Step 2: Now, for the table setting, if you have glasses on the table (be careful if you are dealing with wine glasses), try to wrap each glass with a small golden ribbon (that’s for the classy look). You can also spread some gorgeous pastel flowers on the table (or simply go with an arrangement of carnations). For some ultra-class, I tried attaching the carnation garlands to the chairs, so you could try that too.

Note: My advice to you would be to use a wooden farmhouse-type of the table to create that simple yet rustic tone. And, trust me, the flowers would be a great addition in keeping things feminine yet elegant.
